"Pre-Columbian" is used to refer to the period prior to 1500 A.D. when Europeans had no influence on the great indigenous civilizations of the Americas.
During this period, civilizations occupying the lands, now known as Colombia, developed their skills and acquired extensive knowledge of working with gold. Many different styles appeared which combined complex techniques. Some of the gold was far from pure as it was often made into an alloy, tumbaga, containing copper and sometimes silver, which the gold then became more versatile. These techniques resulted in thousands of objects being produced of outstanding quality, extraordinary beauty and refinement. Gold was known to have had a symbolic and spiritual meaning and had no connection with the modern desire to possess this rare metal. The precious metal was used to engage with spirits and to summon the gift of fertility from the sun and was often included in ritualised hallucination. |

Cultures
The company is dedicated to promoting the gold work of the pre-Columbian indigenous civilizations that inhabited Colombia, through replicating and preserving the realism and appearance of the original gold pieces and producing stunning pieces of pre Columbian jewellery
CALIMA - Calima gold work was easily identified by its elaborate and large size of its pieces which are used in our jewellery for bold and impacting designs.
QUIMBAYA - Inhabiting a district where less gold was abundant than in the rivers that flowed into the pacific, the goldsmiths made wider use of gold and copper alloys.
MUISCA - For Muiscas, gold was closely linked to their religious cult and there was a huge demand for gold pieces often being cast into lakes for religious purposes and rituals.
TOLIMA - Tolima gold work often combined organic and geometric designs. Winged men with jaguar tail and jaws were worn as a symbol of power. The castings used were of the lost wax method and hammered.
TAIRONA - Their metallurgy was very advanced and they used the lost-wax technique in casting to produce three dimensional pieces.
Using highly-perfected alloys, they were able to produce fine decorations, some in the shape of open butterfly wings, and batman figures which have been interpreted as depicting the transformed shaman with spiritual powers. The frog was used widely which represented water and fertility.

SINU - The gold have been observed in fine pieces of hammered gold sheeting which was embossed on both sides.
